Troubleshooting CD-ROM drive problems The server does not recognize the CD-ROM drive. Action Your server comes with an IDE CD-ROM drive. Verify that: 1. The CD-ROM drive is enabled in the Configuration/Setup Utility program. For instructions on using the Configuration/Setup Utility program, see "Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program" on page 39. 2. The server is checking for the CD-ROM drive in the startup sequence. Use the Configuration/Setup Utility program to verify this. 3. The CD is good and not damaged. If the CD is damaged, replace it. 4. The CD is inserted correctly in the drive. 5. The CD contains the necessary files to start the system (the CD must be startable). Note: The CD that comes with your server is startable. 6. The CD-ROM drive cable is properly installed and securely connected. 7. Your software program is OK. See Software Problems at the end of these troubleshooting charts. Follow this procedure if you have installed a SCSI CD-ROM drive. Because you installed a SCSI device, you must set a SCSI ID for this device. Depending on the SCSI controller that your CD-ROM drive is using, use the SCSISelect Utility program to verify the SCSI ID of the CD-ROM drive. For more information, see "SCSISelect Utility program choices" on page 62. If the CD-ROM drive in-use light stays on, or if the system continues to bypass the CD-ROM drive, have the system serviced. 202 Netfinity 3000 User's Handbook

Troubleshooting
CD-ROM drive
problems
Action
The server does not
recognize the CD-ROM
drive.
Your server comes with an IDE CD-ROM drive.
Verify
that:
1.
The CD-ROM drive is enabled in the
Configuration/Setup Utility program.
For
instructions on using the Configuration/Setup
Utility program, see “Using the
Configuration/Setup Utility program” on page
39.
2.
The server is checking for the CD-ROM drive in the
startup sequence.
Use the Configuration/Setup
Utility program to verify this.
3.
The CD is good and not damaged.
If the CD is damaged, replace it.
4.
The CD is inserted correctly in the drive.
5.
The CD contains the necessary files to start the
system (the CD must be startable).
Note:
The CD that comes with your server is
startable.
6.
The CD-ROM drive cable is properly installed and
securely connected.
7.
Your software program is OK.
See
Software
Problems
at the end of these troubleshooting
charts.
Follow this procedure if you have installed a SCSI
CD-ROM drive.
Because you installed a SCSI device,
you must set a SCSI ID for this device.
Depending on
the SCSI controller that your CD-ROM drive is using,
use the SCSISelect Utility program to verify the SCSI ID
of the CD-ROM drive.
For more information, see
“SCSISelect Utility program choices” on page
62.
If the CD-ROM drive in-use light stays on, or if the
system continues to bypass the CD-ROM drive, have
the system serviced.
