Troubleshooting Memory problems The amount of memory displayed is less than the amount of memory installed. Action The amount of available memory shown might be somewhat less than expected because of basic input/output system (BIOS) shadowing in random access memory (RAM). Verify that: 1. The memory modules are properly seated and securely connected. 2. You have installed the correct type of memory for your server. Install only ECC DIMMs to enable ECC. If you mix nonparity (NP) DIMMs and ECC DIMMs, ECC will be disabled. See "Working with memory modules" on page 96 for additional information about memory requirements. 3. If you added or removed memory, you updated the memory configuration with the Configuration/Setup Utility program. For information about using the Configuration/Setup Utility program, see "Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program" on page 39. 4. The DIMMs that you installed have the correct speed (100 MHz). If the problem persists, run the memory test from the diagnostic program that comes with your server. (See "Running the diagnostic test programs" on page 164 for additional information.) The system might have detected a defective DIMM and automatically reallocated memory to enable your server to continue to operate. If the problem cannot be isolated and corrected, have the system serviced. 210 Netfinity 3000 User's Handbook
