Setting the ROM operation mode switch BIOS recovery

Page 296 highlights

Setting the ROM operation mode switch (BIOS recovery) If the power to your server is interrupted while POST/BIOS is being updated, your server might not restart correctly. If this happens, perform the following procedure to recover. Before you begin: Read "Electrical safety" on page 70 and "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 71. Turn off the server and all other connected devices. Disconnect all external cables attached to the server; then, remove the server cover (see "Preparing to add options" on page 73). Locate the Flash BIOS Diskette that you created in "Remote Administration" on page 52. Note: If you have not already done so, go to http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ on the World Wide Web and download the appropriate flash update program. Review the applicable README files, and use this information to create a Flash BIOS Diskette. Perform the POST/BIOS (flash) update procedure (see "Remote Administration" on page 52 for additional information). 1. Locate the configuration switches (also known as rocker switches) on the system board. For more information, refer to the label inside the server, or see "System Board Illustration" on page 253. 2. To set the ROM operation mode to the appropriate value, set switch 5 as shown in the following illustration. It might be helpful to use the end of a small screwdriver to set the switch. Attention: The following illustration is for reference only. Before you change the settings for switch 5, be sure that you check the orientation of your server system board to correctly identify the switch number locations. If you change the settings for the wrong switches, you might seriously damage server components or options. 262 Netfinity 3000 User's Handbook

Setting the ROM operation mode switch (BIOS recovery)
If the power to your server is interrupted while POST/BIOS is being
updated, your server might not restart correctly.
If this happens,
perform the following procedure to recover.
Before you begin:
±
Read “Electrical safety” on page
70 and “Handling
static-sensitive devices” on page
71.
±
Turn off the server and all other connected devices.
±
Disconnect all external cables attached to the server; then,
remove the server cover (see “Preparing to add options” on
page 73).
±
Locate the
Flash BIOS Diskette
that you created in “Remote
Administration” on page
52.
Note:
If you have not already done so, go to
http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ on the World Wide Web
and download the appropriate flash update program.
Review the applicable README files, and use this
information to create a
Flash BIOS Diskette
.
Perform the
POST/BIOS (flash) update procedure (see “Remote
Administration” on page
52 for additional information).
1.
Locate the configuration switches (also known as rocker
switches) on the system board.
For more information, refer to
the label inside the server, or see “System Board Illustration” on
page 253.
2.
To set the ROM operation mode to the appropriate value, set
switch 5 as shown in the following illustration.
It might be
helpful to use the end of a small screwdriver to set the switch.
Attention:
The following illustration is for reference only.
Before you
change the settings for switch 5, be sure that you check the
orientation of your server system board to correctly identify the
switch number locations.
If you change the settings for the
wrong switches, you might seriously damage server components
or options.
