23 VOICE GUIDANCE Voice guidance is a function that provides audio information about operating conditions such as the frequency displayed on the display, memory channels, and function settings. SETTING VOICE GUIDANCE MODE 1 Access Menu No. 916. Voice Guidance Speed Set the voice guidance reading out speed. The default is [Speed 1]. 1 Access Menu No. 918. 2 Select [Off], [Manual], [Auto1], or [Auto2]. [Off]: Turn off the voice guidance function. [Manual]: Reads out the current status when pressing [ ]. [Auto1]: Reads out the status or displayed information changed by the operation. [Auto2]: It reads out the changed status and display contents as you operate. When reading out a memory channel, if a memory name is registered, the memory name (only characters that can be spoken) will be read out instead of the frequency. Note: ¡ The voice guidance language is English only. This is in accordance with the display contents when menu No. 990 is set to "English". ¡ In order to make it easier to hear, the displayed content and the readout content may be different in some parts. ¡ If you press [PF2] + Power ON when the transceiver power is OFF, the transceiver power turns ON and the voice guidance is set to [Auto1]. ¡ If you want to listen to the reading again using [Auto 1] or [Auto 2], press [ ] briefly to read out the current status. ¡ While the voice guidance is being read out, the reception sound is not output. Voice Guidance Volume This function is to set the volume level of the voice guidance. The volume level can be changed by VOL Link (Linked with [VOL] control.), or set by a value among "Level 1" to "Level 7". A larger value results in a greater volume. The default is [VOL Link]. 1 Access Menu No. 917. 2 Select [VOL Link] or [Level 1] - [Level 7].]. 2 Set the guidance speed level from 1 to 4. The speed level set. Speecd 1: Normal speed Speecd 2: 1.15 times normal speed Speecd 3: 1.30 times normal speed Speecd 4: 1.45 times normal speed The higher the number, the faster the speed. Callsign Readout method Specifies how to pronounce the alphabetic characters (A-Z) in the callsign. 1 Access Menu No. 919. 2 Select [Standard], [Full Phonetics], or [Suffix Phonetics]. [Standard]: Read out the alphabet as it is. [Phonetics (Full)]: All are read out in phonetic code. [Phonetics (Suffix ): Only the suffix is read out in phonetic code. APRS Voice This function reads out the sender's callsign and content when receiving an APRS message addressed to your station. 1 Access Menu No. 575. 3 Press [A/B]. The volume level set. 2 Select [Off] or [On]. [Off]: Turn OFF the APRS Voice function. [On]: Turns ON the APRS Voice function. Note: ¡ The APRS Voice (menu No. 575) operates regardless of the Voice Guidance mode setting (menu No. 916). 23-1
