Chapter 2 Basic Installation and Configuration This chapter describes how to install and configure your WG103 ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Access Point for wireless connectivity to your LAN. This basic configuration will enable computers with 802.11b or 802.11g wireless adapters to connect to the Internet, or access printers and files on your LAN. In planning your wireless network, consider the level of security required. Chapter 3, "Wireless Security" describes how to set up wireless security for your network. See also "System Requirements" on page 1-4. Wireless Equipment Placement and Range Guidelines The range of your wireless connection can vary significantly based on the location of the wireless access point. The latency, data throughput performance, and notebook power consumption of wireless adapters also vary depending on your configuration choices. Note: Failure to follow these guidelines can result in significant performance degradation or inability to wirelessly connect to the wireless access point. For complete performance specifications, see Appendix A, "Technical Specifications." Point for wireless connectivity to your LAN. This basic configuration will enable computers with

Wireless Equipment Placement and Range Guidelines
The range of your wireless connection can vary significantly based on the location of the wireless
access point. The latency, data throughput performance, and notebook power consumption of
wireless adapters also vary depending on your configuration choices.
For best results, place your wireless access point according to the following guidelines:
Near the center of the area in which your PCs will operate.
