3550-US-5.0 RECEIVING FAXES AND OTHER CALLS BASIC SETUP TO RECEIVE FAXES The F/T Switch (Fax/Telephone Mode) When you share one line for your telephone and fax machine, in the F/T switch mode, the fax machine can determine whether an incoming call is a fax or a telephone call. (See Chart below.) Incoming Call The fax machine picks up after Ring Delay elapses. All extensions in the home will ring for 0-4 rings (Ring Delay-see page 7-2). You pick up any extension within Ring Delay selection. The fax machine picks up the call and automatically detects whether it is a fax or voice call. Automatic fax call Voice call or manual fax call You must manually determine if it is a voice or fax call. Automatic or manual fax call Voice call Fax reception is automatically activated. The fax message is received. Only the fax handset rings (double ring) for you to pick up. The handset will ring for 10-60 seconds (F/T Ring Time-see page 7-4). A) If you are at the fax machine, press START. B) If you are at an extension phone, you can transfer the fax call to the fax unit by pressing your Remote Activation Code (three digits-see page 7-10~12). Talk as normal. The caller may hang up, but the F/T ringing will continue for 10-60 seconds. The caller stays on the line through the entire 10-60 second Ring Time. The fax mode is activated. You pick up the fax handset. Talk as normal, or press Start key to receive a manual fax. The caller may hang up. 7-3
