Appendix B Power-On Diagnostics The built-in memory (ROM) of your computer contains a series of diagnostics programs, which your computer runs automatically every time you turn on the power. These programs check internal devices such as ROM, RAM, the timer, the keyboard controller, and the diskette drive. When you turn on the power, the computer performs the tests described in this appendix. If it finds an error, it displays a specific error number and error message on the screen. If the error is serious, the computer cancels further checking and halts system initialization. The error message remains on the screen, and the computer no longer responds to your commands. If this happens, contact your Customer Care Center as soon as possible. Report both the error message and code number. If the error is not serious, the computer waits for you to resume further checking. You see this prompt: (Resume = "F1" key) Write down the error message and code number, and then press F1 to resume. Report the error message and code number to your Customer Care Center when requesting repairs. System Device Check The computer first checks its internal devices such as ROM.
