CHAPTER 2 D. Paper Jam Detection The following paper sensors are provided to detect whether paper is present and whether the paper is fed normally. • Registration paper sensor (PS1) • Pick-up unit paper sensor (PS2) • Fixing unit delivery sensor (PS1403) • Face-down tray delivery sensor (PS1402) The microprocessor (CPU) determines whether paper is jammed by checking whether paper is present or absent at the sensors, at times stored in memory. If the CPU determines that a jam has occurred, it stops print operation and notifies the jam to the video controller. Note: T1, T2, and T3 times indicate the minimum and maximum sizes of paper. 1. Cassette pick-up delay jam The CPU detects a cassette pick-up delay jam has occurred if the paper does not reach the pickup unit paper sensor (PS2) within the prescribed time after the paper has been picked up. /PRNT INTR (Unit: Seconds) /PRNT PRINT INTR (Unit: Seconds) PRINT Cassette pick-up solenoid (SL1) Jam check Pick-up unit paper sensor (PS2) Main motor 2.5 Normal 2.5 Abnormal Figure 2-5-12 2 - 55
