CHAPTER 2 F. Paper Jam Detection The following paper sensors are installed to detect the presence of paper and ensure that the paper is fed correctly. • Registration paper sensor (PS31) • Paper jam sensor (PS32) The CPU determines whether or not a paper jam has occurred by monitoring the paper at each of the sensors according to the pre-set 'check timing' in the memory. When the CPU assesses that a jam has occurred, the feed operation to the printer is stopped, and notification of the jam is sent to the option controller. 1. Pick-up delay jam If the paper has not reached the registration sensor (PS31) in the designated time after receiving the pick-up command, the CPU assesses a pick-up delay jam.
