13 Managing the Battery Your HP iPAQ is shipped with the rechargeable battery partially charged. It is recommended that you fully charge the HP iPAQ battery before setting up the unit, and recharge regularly. Your HP iPAQ uses some power to maintain files in RAM and the clock. While working at your desk, keep the HP iPAQ and AC Adapter connected through the HP iPAQ Cradle. When you travel, it is recommended that you carry the AC Adapter, Charger Adapter plug, or an optional spare battery with you. CAUTION: Use only an HP approved battery for your HP iPAQ. Inserting a battery that does not comply with HP requirements might cause the unit to malfunction and will void the HP iPAQ limited warranty. The HP iPAQ has a small internal backup battery that (when charged) allows you to change the main battery without losing RAM data (userinstalled programs and data) as long as it is replaced within 15 minutes. Use the backup battery to "bridge" the time you need to re-install a new standard or extended battery or to find your serial number. You can check the charge level of the back up battery by referring to "Maximizing Battery Life and Checking Battery Charge Levels" in this chapter. The internal battery can only be removed by a qualified HP Technical Support Representative. BATTERY SAVING TIP: To ensure you always have battery power available, you can purchase an extra Standard Battery or Extended Battery. These batteries can be charged using the HP iPAQ. To purchase an extra battery, refer to the HP Web site at www.hp.com/go/ ipaqaccessories. Managing the Battery 13-1

Managing the Battery
Your HP iPAQ is shipped with the rechargeable battery partially charged.
It is recommended that you fully charge the HP iPAQ battery
before
setting up the unit, and recharge regularly. Your HP iPAQ uses some power
to maintain files in RAM and the clock. While working at your desk, keep
the HP iPAQ and AC Adapter connected through the HP iPAQ Cradle.
When you travel, it is recommended that you carry the AC Adapter,
Charger Adapter plug, or an optional spare battery with you.
CAUTION:
Use only an HP approved battery for your HP iPAQ. Inserting
a battery that does not comply with HP requirements might cause the unit
to malfunction and will void the HP iPAQ limited warranty.
The HP iPAQ has a small internal backup battery that (when charged)
allows you to change the main battery without losing RAM data (user-
installed programs and data) as long as it is replaced within 15 minutes.
Use the backup battery to “bridge” the time you need to re-install a new
standard or extended battery or to find your serial number. You can check
the charge level of the back up battery by referring to

in this chapter. The internal
battery can only be removed by a qualified HP Technical
Support Representative.
BATTERY SAVING TIP:
To ensure you always have battery power
available, you can purchase an extra Standard Battery or Extended
Battery. These batteries can be charged using the HP iPAQ. To purchase
an extra battery, refer to the HP Web site at
