Moving a Volume Group from One Disk Array to Another It is possible to move an entire volume group from one HP SureStore E Disk Array FC60 to another by moving all the disk in the volume group. However, this is not the recommended procedure for moving LUN data from one array to another. If possible, the data should be moved to a LUN in the new disk array. If this is not possible, the following procedure can be used to move the LUN disks. CAUTION Never move disks from one disk array to another or within an array with power on. Moving disks with power on may result in data loss. Always power down the disk array before moving disks. Moving disk should not be confused with replacing a failed disk or adding new disk modules to increase capacity. Both of these tasks can be done with the disk array powered on. 1. On the disk array to which you are moving the volume group, make sure you have the necessary available slots for the disk modules. The slots should all be for unassigned disks. Make sure you use slots on different channels to maintain high availability. 2. Power down the disk array to which you are moving the volume group. 3. On the disk array from which you are moving the volume group, identify and mark all of the disks in the volume group. Refer to the information for the management tool you are using on how to identify disk modules. 4. Power down the disk array from which you are moving the volume group. 5. Move the disk modules to the new disk array. 6. Power on the new disk array. 7. The array will recognize the new volume group and include it in the array configuration. If the original number used by the volume group is available on the new array, it will be Managing the Disk Array Moving a Volume Group from One Disk Array to Another 203
