Troubleshooting Note The BBU has a two-year life expectancy. The BBU is a sealed unit and must be replaced as an entire assembly. The batteries inside the BBU are not separately replaceable. Types of Power System Problems Some electrical problems are difficult to trace, especially if they involve complex site wiring in a large facility. However, you can use the controller enclosure's LEDs and a few simple procedures in this chapter to determine if the power problem is in the controller enclosure, the rack, or the building. Hardware-Related Problems Problems in the hardware components in the controller enclosure's power system include: • Loose or damaged power connectors • Disconnected or damaged power cables • Weak or failed batteries • Failed power supplies • Failure of other power-related components of the controller enclosure • Power failure of the power unit (internal AC distribution unit or UPS) • Power failure of the external AC source (building circuit breakers, wiring, or UPS) Controller Enclosure Troubleshooting 261
