Managing Events ■ Error -Indicates that an incorrect system operation has occurred, has been recovered from, and probably has little or no impact on performance or data integrity. ■ Severe-Indicates that an important, unexpected event has occurred that is likely to impair the function of the system unless corrected. ■ Fatal-Indicates that an important, unexpected event has occurred which is likely to damage user data or otherwise impair service. The nature of the event is such that the system should not be operated until the fault is corrected. (Fatal events may cause the iSCSI service to shut down until they are cleared.) ■ Down-Indicates that the system is unresponsive to all inquiries. This category is most often used when the Adaptec iSA1500 is powered down or is being rebooted. The component that causes an event appears in Adaptec Storage Manager with the same status as the event itself. For instance, if an iSCSI Station issues a Warning event, the icon for that iSCSI Station changes to reflect Warning status. You can check the status of all IPSAN components by clicking the Status button in the toolbar (shown at right). Searching the Event Log You can specify how the events should be listed in the Event Log by using the drop-down boxes in the Search area. (See the Figure in Opening the Event Log on page 7-2.) You can specify: ■ Start Time-List only events that are logged on or after the specified date and time. ■ Results per Page-Limits how many results are listed on each page of the Results window. ■ Active State-Limits the events to be displayed to either Active events only or all events. ■ Minimum/Maximum Severity-Limits the events to be displayed by minimum and maximum severity levels. 7-3
