Building Your IPSAN
Building Your IPSAN (Without WMI)
This section provides basic instructions for creating an IPSAN
manually, without using the automated features of Adaptec
Storage Manager that are supported by WMI.
Set-up Task List
To set up your IPSAN manually, complete these tasks, in order:
1
Add a storage pool to the iSCSI subsystem. (See
page 4-5
.)
2
Add an iSCSI target. (See the next section on this page.)
3
Create and configure spares. (See
page 4-13
.)
Creating an iSCSI Target
After you create a storage pool (see
page 4-5
), the next step in
building an IPSAN manually is to create your iSCSI targets.
Note:
You can only create an iSCSI target within a storage pool.
Ensure that you have created a storage pool before you continue.
Plan your storage—an iSCSI target must be at least 10 MB in size
and can be no larger than the storage pool in which it’s built. Leave
room in your storage pool for advanced features such as snapshots
that require available free space. Once you have created an iSCSI
target, you can adjust its size at any time. (See
page 6-34
.)
To create a new iSCSI target:
1
In the Tree Menu, click the iSCSI subsystem on which you want
to create an iSCSI target.
2
In the Application Window, click
View
under the Targets option.
The Targets on this iSCSI Subsystem window opens.
