15 chapter INTELLIGENT MANAGEABILITY Intelligent Manageability is software that combines innovative hardware technology with PC LAN management tools to make Compaq computers easier to inventory, troubleshoot, and protect. The lowercase i in the notification area on the taskbar indicates that Intelligent Manageability is installed on the computer. Fault Management, Asset Management, and Security Management are features within Intelligent Manageability. Insight Manager is included with Intelligent Manageability software installed on Compaq servers. It provides monitoring, remote maintenance, and asset management of network resources. Insight Personal Edition provides similar capabilities to personal computers. Fault Management Fault Management is a monitoring and notification utility that helps prevent data loss. It includes two primary detection functions: s IntelliSafe hard drive constantly monitors hard drive activity to predict failures before they occur. s Temperature sensing hardware and software track the internal temperature of the computer and display a warning message when the normal range is exceeded. When a hard drive fault or system temperature fault is detected, a fault notice appears in a popup window. If the computer is connected to a network that is using Insight Manager, the fault notice can also be seen by the network administrator. Intelligent Manageability 15-1
