AUSTEL Requirements CAUTION: Failure to set the modem, and any communications software used with the modem, to the values contained in the Telephone Answering Machine documentation will result in the modem being operated in a non-compliant manner. Consequently, there would be no permit in force for this equipment, and the Telecommunications Act 1991 prescribes a penalty of $12,000 for the connection of non-permitted equipment. Auto Dialing with the Modem 1. When entering telephone numbers, ensure that the number that appears on the screen is correct before beginning to dial. 2. Some parameters required for compliance with AUSTEL specifications are dependent on the Telecommunications apparatus provided with the Compaq 2890 series of computers. The Compaq series 576W global modem shall be set to operate within the following limits for compliance with AUSTEL Specifications. When the user manually initiates a call via equipment connected to the Compaq personal computer, the equipment shall operate within the following restrictions: a. Without call progress detection-a maximum of three calls (original plus two retries). b. With call progress detection (which ensures the line will be released after detection of tones indicating the call will not be successful)-a maximum of ten calls (original plus nine retries). c. If the series of calls noted in a or b are unsuccessful, no further attempts shall be made to obtain the required number within the next 30 minutes (unless manually initiated).
