Connecting an External Device You do not have to shut down the computer to connect an external keyboard, external numeric keypad, or PS/2-compatible mouse or other pointing device. After connecting an external PS/2-compatible device, you can use either the external or the integrated device. To connect an external device: 1. Connect the external device cable to the computer. For information about which computer connector to use, refer to "Identifying External Connectors" in this chapter and to the documentation that came with the device. 2. If applicable, plug the power cord of the new device into an electrical outlet. 3. If applicable, turn on the system in this sequence: s First, all external devices that have power switches. s Second, the computer. NOTE: The parallel connector supports the faster bi-directional communications of Extended Capabilities Port (ECP) and of Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP). If you are connecting the computer to another computer, refer to "Accessing Infrared Software" in this chapter for information about using the Direct Cable Connection utility. Connecting an External Device
You do not have to shut down the computer to connect an
external keyboard, external numeric keypad, or PS/2-compatible
mouse or other pointing device.
After connecting an external PS/2-compatible device, you can use
either the external or the integrated device.
To connect an external device:
1. Connect the external device cable to the computer. For
information about which computer connector to use, refer to
“Identifying External Connectors” in this chapter and to the
documentation that came with the device.
2. If applicable, plug the power cord of the new device into an
