Solving Hardware Problems Continued Problem Possible Cause Solution Cannot access a removable drive. A removable drive is not seated properly. In Windows 95, shut down the computer, remove and reinsert the drive, then turn on the computer. In Windows NT, you do not have to shut down the computer to insert a diskette drive or CD-ROM drive. Run Computer Checkup to test the drive. (Refer to Chapter 14.) Computer beeps four times when turned on, power/suspend light is on, but screen remains blank. Memory expansion board(s) has been installed incorrectly or has lost connection. Memory board or memory circuitry has failed. Follow the steps in Chapter 11 to remove and reinsert the memory expansion board(s). Contact your Compaq authorized service provider. 16-14 Troubleshooting
