1 Cluster Platform Express Overview HP Cluster Platform Express (CPE) systems are delivered to you factory assembled and ready for deployment. They are available with a choice of pre-installed software for cluster management. The extensive array of software development tools and applications featured in the Unified Cluster Portfolio are supported on Cluster Platform Express solutions, which follow the same design and quality standards established for HP Cluster Platform solutions. CPE solutions offer a choice of compute nodes, with HP ProLiant DLxxx rack-mountable servers or BLxxxc server blades featuring either AMD Opteron™ or Intel® Xeon™ processors. You can also choose larger nodes to use as a control node to provide additional storage and network connectivity. Software options include Red Hat and SUSE Linux distributions, as well as the HP message-passing library, HP-MPI. For Windows environments, clusters are available with the Microsoft Windows Windows Server 2008. For information on the software available for CPE systems, go to: http://h20311.www2.hp.com/HPC/cache/276453-0-0-225-121.html This chapter discusses the following topics: • An overview of Cluster Platform Workgroup System (see Section 1.1) • An overview of CPE BladeSystem with c7000 enclosure (see Section 1.2) • An overview of CPE with rack-mountable servers (see Section 1.3) • An overview of CPE architecture (see Section 1.4) • HP Cluster Platform component documentation sources (see Section 1.5) 1.1 Cluster Platform Workgroup System The HP Cluster Platform Workgroup System (CP Workgroup System) is built around the HP c3000 enclosure using the HP BladeSystem c-Class architecture. The HP BladeSystem c3000 enclosure is designed for remote or small business computing environments, and it fits into a standard HP 10000 Series rack. The CP Workgroup System includes support for an Administrative, Console, and Gigabit Ethernet network, and includes an option for a low-latency, high-performance InfiniBand network. You can configure the HP BladeSystem c3000 enclosure to hold up to eight half-height server blades. The CP Workgroup System is assembled in volume manufacturing plants to minimize component cost, and is shipped to customer sites cabled and ready to be plugged into a local power source. The single-rack solutions are shipped integrated in 22U HP 10000 Series racks, and include an option for an external control node. The systems support Red Hat and Suse Linux distributions, and Microsoft Windows. Support for HP XC, SCALI, CMU, and Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server (WCCS) technology are available for this platform. See Chapter 2 for configuration examples and installation information for the CP Workgroup System. 1.1 Cluster Platform Workgroup System
The HP Cluster Platform Workgroup System (CP Workgroup System) is built around the HP
c3000 enclosure using the HP BladeSystem c-Class architecture. The HP BladeSystem c3000
enclosure is designed for remote or small business computing environments, and it fits into a
standard HP 10000 Series rack. The CP Workgroup System includes support for an Administrative,
Console, and Gigabit Ethernet network, and includes an option for a low-latency,
high-performance InfiniBand network.
You can configure the HP BladeSystem c3000 enclosure to hold up to eight half-height server
blades. The CP Workgroup System is assembled in volume manufacturing plants to minimize
component cost, and is shipped to customer sites cabled and ready to be plugged into a local
power source. The single-rack solutions are shipped integrated in 22U HP 10000 Series racks,
and include an option for an external control node. The systems support Red Hat and Suse Linux
distributions, and Microsoft Windows. Support for HP XC, SCALI, CMU, and Microsoft Windows
Compute Cluster Server (WCCS) technology are available for this platform.
See
Chapter 2
