Installing TeemTalk On UNIX Based Products Installing Fonts On X Terminals The standard TeemTalk installation will convert the Bitmap Distribution Format (BDF) fonts supplied with TeemTalk to the format used by the workstation on which TeemTalk is being installed. When TeemTalk is to be displayed on X terminals the format of the converted fonts may not be compatible with the X terminal. The following notes are for guidance and later information on how to install fonts may be found in the Operator's Manual supplied with the X terminal. NCD X Terminals Font Format The NCD font server can read a number of different formats including: Portable Compiled Fonts (PCF), which is the standard format used in X11R5. If TeemTalk has been installed on an X11R5 based workstation then the bdf fonts will have already been converted to pcf format and the font format will be directly readable by the NCD X terminal. Server Natural Format (SNF) prior to X11R5 The NCD X terminal can read snf format fonts from a variety of sources including HP, IBM, MIT, DEC, Sun and SCO. When specifying snf format fonts from these vendors the following prefix should be used to identify the format. For example, for IBM snf fonts use the following: /u/fonts/ibm-snf The prefixes for the snf fonts are as follows: HP: hp IBM: ibm DEC: dec SCO: sco NCD: ncd Sun: sun If the prefix is not specified, NCD is assumed. NCD specific snf fonts can be created by modifying the bdftosnf statement in the install script to: bdftosnf -p4 Configuration Parameters The NCD X terminal stores its configuration data in a file called config which is located in the directory /usr/lib/X11/ncd/fs. Among other parameters the configuration file contains a search list of font directories. For example: 2-6
