X Terminals From Other Vendors, Understanding TeemTalk Installation

Page 26 highlights

Installing TeemTalk On UNIX Based Products HP Server Natural Format (SNF) prior to X11R5 The HP specific snf fonts can be created by modifying the bdftosnf statement in the install script to: xtbdftosnf and the mkfontdir statement to: xtmkfontdir Both of these utilities are supplied on the HP X terminal boot tape and are located in the /usr/lib/X11/700x directory. Fonts created for the HP X terminal should be located in the directory tree below the directory /usr/lib/X11/700x/fonts. X Terminals From Other Vendors Please consult the Operator's Guide supplied with the X terminal for guidance on their specific installation procedure. Understanding TeemTalk Installation Here we outline the basics behind the installation of TeemTalk on UNIX systems and common pitfalls. Extracting The TeemTalk Distribution Tape TeemTalk may be distributed on a QIC 24 60Mb format tape suitable for use on a variety of popular workstations. Other tape formats are used for more specialised configurations such as 4mm DAT tapes. Each QIC 24 DAT tape is divided into a number of 'tar' blocks. The first block contains a general loader program called readtape which is a simple utility used for extracting data from the remainder of the tape. The second block contains data which is common to all workstations, currently the only data stored here is the font files. The next block contains the TeemTalk executable and installation scripts for each of the different workstations. After loading the tape, the first tar command will extract the readtape utility, which when executed displays a menu from which the workstation configuration can be selected. The utility also prompts for the device name of the 'no-rewind' tape device to be used. The readtape utility proceeds to extract the next tape block - the common block containing the font files. It then locates the required executable by name. 2-8

Installing TeemTalk On UNIX Based Products
HP Server Natural Format
(SNF) prior to X11R5
The HP specific snf fonts can be created by modifying the
bdftosnf
statement
in the
install
script to:
xtbdftosnf
and the
mkfontdir
statement to:
xtmkfontdir
Both of these utilities are supplied on the HP X terminal boot tape and are
located in the
/usr/lib/X11/700x
directory.
Fonts created for the HP X terminal should be located in the directory tree
below the directory
/usr/lib/X11/700x/fonts
.

Please consult the Operator's Guide supplied with the X terminal for guidance on
their specific installation procedure.
Understanding TeemTalk Installation
Here we outline the basics behind the installation of TeemTalk on UNIX systems and
common pitfalls.
Extracting The TeemTalk Distribution Tape
TeemTalk may be distributed on a QIC 24 60Mb format tape suitable for use on a
variety of popular workstations. Other tape formats are used for more specialised
configurations such as 4mm DAT tapes.
Each QIC 24 DAT tape is divided into a number of 'tar' blocks. The first block
contains a general loader program called
readtape
which is a simple utility used for
extracting data from the remainder of the tape. The second block contains data which
is common to all workstations, currently the only data stored here is the font files.
The next block contains the TeemTalk executable and installation scripts for each of
the different workstations.
After loading the tape, the first tar command will extract the
readtape
utility, which
when executed displays a menu from which the workstation configuration can be
selected. The utility also prompts for the device name of the ‘no-rewind’ tape device
to be used. The
readtape
utility proceeds to extract the next tape block - the common
block containing the font files. It then locates the required executable by name.
