Configuring the Director Backing Up and Restoring Configuration Data You can back up the NV-RAM configuration, which includes all of the data you input through instructions in this chapter, using the Backup and Restore Configuration option. This option is available through the Maintenance menu. Selecting this option backs up the configuration data to a file on the HAFM server hard drive. The restore function writes this data back to NV-RAM on the switch. Using the restore function overwrites the existing configuration. For more information, refer to "Backup and Restore Configuration" on page 180. In addition to the Backup and Restore Configuration option, the backup application automatically backs up configuration and other critical data from the HAFM server. As long as backup media remains in the backup drive of the HAFM server (either an Iomega Zip drive or internal CD-RW drive, depending on your HAFM server platform), data is written to the backup media whenever the directory contents change or you reboot the HAFM server. For more information, refer to "Backing Up and Restoring Product Manager Data" on page 64. Note: We do not recommend changing the default backup settings. Note: To ensure trouble-free backups, it is imperative that you leave the backup media in the drive at all times. Removing the media during a backup or restore can corrupt the database on the media. Make sure that data is not being written to or read from the backup drive before you remove the backup media by observing the following: ■ The Iomega QuikSync icon in the Windows system tray spins when data is being written to or read from the Zip drive. ■ The CD-RW drive write LED flashes when data is being written to disk.
