NOTE: Although you can use the Group Manager to create storage containers, Dell recommends that you use the Dell Virtual Storage Manager (VSM) to perform this task. The VSM procedures for setting up VVols is simpler than using the Group Manager. Using the Group Manager for VVol operations is recommended for experienced users only. For detailed information about setting up VVols using VSM, see the Dell Virtual Storage Manager for VMware Installation and User's Guide. Volume and Snapshot Space Panel NOTE: When viewing synchronous replication (SyncRep) volumes, the panel displays the volume space, snapshot space, and volume distribution graphs for the pools of the SyncActive and SyncAlternate volumes. The SyncActive volume is the one to which iSCSI initiators connect when reading and writing data. The SyncAlternate volume is the one to which the data being written on the SyncActive volume is being simultaneously written. If the volumes are in sync, these graphs display the same capacities. If the volumes are out of sync, the graphs show different capacities. Table 538. Volume and Snapshot Space Panel Field Description Storage pool Indicates the storage pool in which the volume resides. If synchronous replication is enabled for the volume, the pools of the SyncActive and SyncAlternate volumes are displayed. Volume space Reported size Size of the volume in MB, GB, or TB. NOTE: Volume capacities displayed in the Group Manager GUI can be rounded up by as much as 15MB. This behavior is normal, and is the result of the array's internal calculations for capacity allocations. Thin provisioning TP warning mode Indicates whether thin provisioning is enabled or disabled for the volume. If enabled, the volume reserve is equal to or less than the reported size, depending on volume usage and the thin-provisioning settings. If disabled, the volume reserve is equal to the reported size. Displays how the volume will respond if the space on the thin-provisioned volume exceeds the warning limit. Set to either: • leave online • generate initiator write error • both • neither Volume reserve Graph of volume space Snapshot space Snapshot reserve Space recovery Number of snapshots Graph of snapshot space Actual amount of pool space that the group has allocated to the volume. The amount of the volume reserve depends on whether you enable thin provisioning on the volume.
