9 Bare Metal Provisioning (BMP) Bare metal provisioning (BMP) is supported on the Dell Force10 S55, S60, S4810, and Z-Series platforms. BMP version 1.5 is supported on the S55 and S60 platforms. BMP 3.0 is supported on S4810 and Z-Series platforms. In a data center network, BMP automates the configuration and updating of switches, ensuring standard configurations across the installed devices. You can configure autoconfiguration on a single switch or on multiple switches. BMP allows you to set up a stack with a minimum of effort, but is also useful for quick configuration of a single switch. For more information about BMP in Auto-Configuration mode, refer to the Open Automation Guide. BMP 3.0 eases configuration by providing the following key features: • Boot images and running configurations are specified in a DHCP server. • Files are automatically downloaded from a file server and applied by the switch. • Switch access is allowed through all ports (management and user ports) with or without DHCP-based dynamic IP address configuration of a switch. • Booting up in Layer 3 mode with interfaces already in No Shutdown mode. Enables only some basic protocols to protect the system and the network. • Supports preconfiguration and postconfiguration scripts to automatically load predefined configurations and FTOS images using DHCP and common file transfer mechanisms. reload conditional nvram-cfg-change After saving the BMP configuration, use this command to perform a reload on the chassis to upgrade any configuration changes that have changed the NVRAM content. Z-Series, S4810 Syntax Defaults Command Modes Command History reload conditional nvram-cfg-change none EXEC Version 9.1(0.0) Introduced on Z9000 and S4810. Usage Information Use the reload conditional nvram-cfg-change command on a switch running BMP 3.0 to upgrade any NVRAM changes to the chassis caused by the following CLI commands: stack-unit {unit} stack-group, stack-unit {unit} port {fanout-portid} portmode quad, asf-mode, cam-acl, bufferprofile. 541

Bare metal provisioning (BMP) is supported on the Dell Force10 S55, S60, S4810, and Z-Series platforms. BMP version

1.5 is supported on the S55 and S60 platforms. BMP 3.0 is supported on S4810 and Z-Series platforms.

In a data center network, BMP automates the configuration and updating of switches, ensuring standard configurations

across the installed devices.

You can configure autoconfiguration on a single switch or on multiple switches. BMP allows you to set up a stack with a

minimum of effort, but is also useful for quick configuration of a single switch.

BMP 3.0 eases configuration by providing the following key features:

•

Boot images and running configurations are specified in a DHCP server.

•

Files are automatically downloaded from a file server and applied by the switch.

•

Switch access is allowed through all ports (management and user ports) with or without DHCP-based dynamic

IP address configuration of a switch.

•

Booting up in Layer 3 mode with interfaces already in No Shutdown mode. Enables only some basic protocols to

protect the system and the network.

•

Supports preconfiguration and postconfiguration scripts to automatically load predefined configurations and

FTOS images using DHCP and common file transfer mechanisms.

reload conditional nvram-cfg-change

After saving the BMP configuration, use this command to perform a reload on the chassis to upgrade any configuration

changes that have changed the NVRAM content.
