Installing Windows XP Installing Retail Windows XP Upon successful installation of the drivers, you will be asked to reboot your notebook. Choose YES, I WANT TO RESTART MY COMPUTER NOW if you have no other drivers to install. Otherwise, choose NO, I WILL RESTART MY COMPUTER LATER and continue to the next step. To install the touchpad drivers (Synaptics) While the touchpad will function with the default XP touchpad drivers, you will lack the ability to use special features and advanced configuration settings. Hewlett-Packard suggests that you install these drivers to take advantage of these features. This driver works for all systems, including notebooks that have both the touchpad and touchstyk. 1. Run SETUP.EXE from the touchpad driver directory on the Recovery CD. 2. Choose the desired language and click OK. 3. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to complete installation. Upon successful installation of the drivers, you will be asked to reboot your notebook. Choose YES, I WANT TO RESTART MY COMPUTER NOW if you have no other drivers to install. Otherwise, choose NO, I WILL RESTART MY COMPUTER LATER and continue to the next step. To install the wired 10/100 LAN drivers (RealTek) While the RealTek LAN will function with the default XP LAN drivers, you will lack the ability to use special features and advanced configuration. Hewlett-Packard suggests that you install these drivers to take advantage of these features. 1. Run SETUP.EXE from the LAN driver directory on the Recovery CD. 2. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to complete installation. To install the wireless LAN drivers (Actiontec) Windows XP does not contain the necessary drivers for the wireless LAN hardware that may be in your notebook (not all HP Notebooks are equipped with wireless LAN).
