Installing Windows 2000 Installing Retail Windows 2000 Upon completion of the retail Windows 2000 install, the following devices will remain unidentified in Device Manager: • Multimedia Audio Controller • Network Controller • PCI Simple Communications Controller • Video Controller (VGA Compatible) To update the operating system Hewlett-Packard suggests that you update the operating system before proceeding to install the drivers. Please download and install Service Pack 2 from Microsoft. Windows 2000 Service Packs can be downloaded from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks To install the video driver (ATI Mobility Radeon) If you have installed retail Windows 2000, you must install the ATI video driver. To install or upgrade the ATI video driver: 1. Insert the bootable Recovery CD into the CD-ROM/DVD drive. 2. Run SETUP.EXE from the video driver directory on the Recovery CD. 3. Follow the on-screen directions to complete installation. Upon successful installation of the driver, you will be asked to reboot your notebook. Choose YES, I WANT TO RESTART MY COMPUTER NOW if you have no other drivers to install. Otherwise, choose NO, I WILL RESTART MY COMPUTER LATER and continue to the next step. You can reboot at this point to have full screen video for the remainder of the configuration process.
