POST Error Messages POST Error Messages Screen Message 1998-Master Boot Record has been changed. 2000-Master Boot Record Hard Drive has Changed. Invalid Electronic Serial Number. ECC Multiple Bit Error Detected in Memory Module. Parity Check 2. Probable Cause The current MBR does not match the previously saved copy of the MBR. The current bootable hard drive is not the same as the one that was present when MBR security was enabled. Electronic serial number has become corrupted. Chipset has detected more than one bad bit in a 64-bit quadword of the memory array. Parity RAM failure. Recommended Action Use extreme caution, The MBR may have been updated due to normal disk maintenance activities (disk manager, fdisk, or format). Replacing the previously saved MBR in such situations can cause data loss. If certain that the MBR change is unintentional and undesired (e.g. due to a virus), run Computer Setup and restore the previously saved MBR copy. Otherwise, run Computer Setup and either disable MBR security or save the MBR of the current bootable disk. Run Computer Setup and either disable MBR security or save the MBR of the current bootable disk. Run Computer Setup. If Setup already has data in the field or will not allow the serial number to be entered, download from http://www.hp.com and run SP5572.EXE (SNZERO.EXE). Run Computer Setup and try to enter serial number under Security, System ID, then save changes. Replace the memory module. Run Computer Setup and Diagnostic utilities.
