Glossary Appendix dpi (dots per inch) A measure of image resolution. Indicates the number of dots in 1 inch (25.4mm). IP Address An identification number assigned to every computer connected to a TCP/IP network. Represented by 4 octets of numbers from 0 - 255, such as 192.168.110.171. Send E-mail A function to send scanned images to preset e-mail addresses or e-mail addresses entered by key input. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) A protocol to deliver electronic mail over the Intranet or private intranets. SMTP is used to deliver mail between servers and to send mail from an e-mail client to a server. Subnet Mask A 32 bit value that defines how many bits of an IP address are used to identify a network in a network address. TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) A network protocol to define data transmission standards for communication between computers and other devices. TWAIN (Technology Without Any Interested Name) A technological standard for connecting computers and image input devices such as scanners and digital cameras. Images from a TWAIN-compliant device can be imported into any TWAIN-compliant software application. Glossary
