Adjusting the Size, Quality Level, Brightness, and Color Tone Taking Pictures Selecting the AE Metering You can choose which area of the image to measure for determining the exposure (brightness). AE Metering L Multi-segment metering The camera takes a detailed reading of the overall brightness of the picture and determines the correct exposure. The camera can obtain a relatively correct exposure even for complex subjects with both dark and light areas. The camera takes a uniform reading of the overall brightness of M Center-weighted metering the picture with the metering concentrated at the center of the image. You can take pictures with the correct exposure for subjects at the center of the picture even if the surrounding background is lighter or darker than the subject. 3 N Spot AE metering The camera determines the exposure by metering only the objects in the center spot. Use this to obtain correct exposure on a small part of the image. 1 Press the 3 button. The [Menu] appears. 2 Touch [Rec. Mode 1]. The Rec. Mode 1 screen appears. 3 Touch [AE Metering]. The AE Metering screen appears. 4 Touch the AE metering method you want to set. The setting is saved and the screen returns to the previous screen. 5 Touch twice. • The camera returns to Capture mode. • Press the Q button to return to Playback mode. AE Metering Memo • When the shutter release button is pressed halfway, the camera meters the brightness and determines the exposure. • When the subject is outside the focusing area and you want to use spot AE metering, aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter release button halfway to lock the exposure, then compose your picture again and press the shutter release button fully. • When the shooting mode is set to C (Movie), the AE metering is fixed at Multi-segment metering and cannot be changed. 61
