Appendix C: Safety Information Rack If rack mounted SLBs are installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, they may require further evaluation by Certification Agencies. The following items must be considered: Do not install the SLB in a rack in such a way that a hazardous stability condition results because of uneven loading. A drop or fall could cause injury. The ambient temperature (Tma) inside the rack may be greater than the room ambient temperature. Make sure to install the SLB in an environment with an ambient temperature less than the maximum operating temperature of the SLB. (See Technical Specifications on page 30.) Install the equipment in a rack in such a way that the amount of airflow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. Mount the equipment in the rack so that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading. Maintain reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment. Give particular attention to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g. use of power strips). Before operating the SLB, make sure the SLB is secured to the rack. Port Connections Only connect the network port to an Ethernet network that supports 10Base-T/100Base-T. Only connect device ports to equipment with serial ports that support EIA-232 (formerly RS- 232C). Only connect the console port to equipment with serial ports that support EIA-232 (formerly RS-232C). SLB - Branch Office Manager User Guide 300
