CHAPTER 23 Static Route This chapter shows you how to configure static routes. 23.1 Static Routing Overview The Switch uses IP for communication with management computers, for example using HTTP, telnet, SSH, or SNMP. Use IP static routes to have the Switch respond to remote management stations that are not reachable through the default gateway. The Switch can also use static routes to send data to a server or device that is not reachable through the default gateway, for example when sending SNMP traps or using ping to test IP connectivity. This figure shows a Telnet session coming in from network N1. The Switch sends reply traffic to default gateway R1 which routes it back to the manager's computer. The Switch needs a static route to tell it to use router R2 to send traffic to an SNMP trap server on network N2.
