Envelope feeder Before proceeding with this service check, make sure the envelope option is installed correctly. Step 1 Actions and questions Make sure the envelopes installed in the tray meet specifications. Some guidelines that can be used in selection of envelopes that will minimize the jam rate are: • Flat envelopes that are not warped or twisted. • Flexible envelopes that can conform to the paper path. • Smooth surface on the envelopes. Rough or ridged surfaces may cause the envelopes to stick together in the tray. • No cotton content, or as little as possible to meet the user's needs. • If the envelopes have a pressure-sensitive adhesive flap, performance might be improved by reversing the orientation of the envelope in the tray and reversing the image in the drive or application.
