Techno Tidbits & Problem-solving Problem When playing an LD the SIGNAL SELECT is on 2 RF but there is still no sound. No sound output from the headphones. Cause • The LD is not a Dolby Digital compatible disc. • The U-shaped connectors that connect the POWER AMP IN terminals to the front channel pre outs are not connected. Remedy • Set the SIGNAL SELECT to AUTO (p.51) (make sure your LD player is hooked up with analog connections in addition to digital and 2 RF connections, see p.20). • Connect the POWER AMP IN terminals to the front channel pre outs using the supplied U-shaped connectors (p.34). Other audio problems Subwoofer output is very low. During MULTI CHANNEL IN playback, there is channel(s) that isn't output from any speaker. During multi channel playback, the only sound output is from the front speakers. • Settings route signal away from subwoofer. • The MULTI CH IN SELECT is not set correctly. • DIRECT mode is selected and one pair of speakers is set to NO. • 2 channel input is selected. • To get more signal to the subwoofer set it to PLUS or choose SMALL for the front speakers (p.41-42). • Select the correct number of input channels (p.101). • Switch the setting to ADJUST mode (p.59). • Set the MULTI CH INPUT to 8 channel (p.59). A DVD-A source connected to MULTI CH INPUT jacks appears to be downmixed to 2 channels during playback. • The signal coming from MULTI CH INPUT jacks isn't selected (for example, digital PCM is selected, etc.) • Check the MULTI CH INPUT connection and select the type of playback with the MULTI CH IN button (p.59). The OVER indicator is constantly lit. • If you are using an analog source, the signal is too strong. Considerable noise in radio broadcasts. • Incorrect frequency. • The antenna is not connected. • 2 RF and/or digital cables are near the antenna terminals and wires. Broadcast stations cannot be FM broadcasts selected automatically. • The FM antenna is not fully extended or is poorly positioned. • Weak radio signals. AM broadcasts • The AM antenna is poorly positioned. • Weak radio signals. • Interference caused by other equipment (fluorescent lamp, motor, etc.). Noise or hum can be heard even when there is no sound being input. • There is electrical interference from another component or appliance. When a search is performed by a DTS compatible CD player during playback, noise is output. • The search function performed by the player interferes with the reading of digital information. • Press the INPUT ATT button (p.60). • If the player has an analog output setting, lower it as necessary. • Tune in the correct frequency (p.64). • Connect the antenna (p.27). • Route 2 RF and digital cables away from the antenna terminals and wires. • Fully extend the FM wire antenna, position for best reception, and secure to a wall. • Connect an outdoor FM antenna (see p.27). • Adjust the direction and position for best reception. • Connect an additional internal or external AM antenna (see p.27). • Turn off the equipment causing the noise or move it away from the receiver. • Place the antenna farther away from the equipment causing the noise. • Check that personal computers or other digital components connected to the same power source are not causing interference. • This is not a malfunction, but be sure to turn the volume down to prevent the output of loud noise from your speakers.
