Chapter 2 Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3020 for HP Cisco IOS Commands delete delete Use the delete privileged EXEC command to delete a file or directory on the flash memory device. delete [/force] [/recursive] filesystem:/file-url Syntax Description /force /recursive filesystem: /file-url (Optional) Suppress the prompt that confirms the deletion. (Optional) Delete the named directory and all subdirectories and the files contained in it. Alias for a flash file system. The syntax for the local flash file system: flash: The path (directory) and filename to delete. Command Modes Privileged EXEC Command History Release 12.2(25)SEF Modification This command was introduced. Usage Guidelines If you use the /force keyword, you are prompted once at the beginning of the deletion process to confirm the deletion. If you use the /recursive keyword without the /force keyword, you are prompted to confirm the deletion of every file. The prompting behavior depends on the setting of the file prompt global configuration command. By default, the switch prompts for confirmation on destructive file operations. For more information about this command, see the Cisco IOS Command Reference for Release 12.1. Examples This example shows how to remove the directory that contains the old software image after a successful download of a new image: Switch# delete /force /recursive flash:/old-image You can verify that the directory was removed by entering the dir filesystem: privileged EXEC command.
