Symptom Power problems The server does not turn on. The server does not turn off. Suggested action Make sure that: 1. The power cables are properly connected to the server. 2. The electrical outlet functions properly. 3. The type of memory installed is correct. 4. If you just installed an option, remove it, and restart the server. If the server now turns on, you might have installed more options than the power supply supports. 5. The LEDs on the power supply are on. 6. The operations panel functions properly. 7. VRM I/O board functions properly. 8. RSA system reset. 9. See "Power checkout" on page 74 for further problem determination steps. Verify whether you are using an ACPI or non-ACPI operating system. If you are using a non-ACPI operating system: 1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. 2. Turn off the system by using the power-control button. The server does not turn on 1. Reseat boards and VRMs. once back together (loose connection(s) and/or bent pins) 2. Check front panel cable connections. The server turns on but then turns off with fault light (bent pin(s); short on board) 1. Reseat microprocessor. 2. Microprocessor. The server starts up but does not POST (loose connection(s); incorrect processor stepping; system speed too high for processors; memory not stuffed in documented order; unsupported or unvalidated DIMMS) 1. Check that screw or other conductive item has not been dropped into system. 2. Reseat boards and VRMs. 3. Check for bent pins on cables. 4. Check for bent pins on processors. Software problems Suspected software problem. To determine if problems are caused by the software, verify that: 1. The server has the minimum memory requirements needed to use the software. For memory requirements, refer to the information that comes with the software. Note: If you have just installed an adapter or memory, you might have a memory address conflict. 2. The software is designed to operate on the server. 3. Other software works on the server. 4. The software that you are using works on another system. If you received any error messages when using the software program, refer to the information that comes with the software for a description of the messages and solutions to the problem. Universal Serial Bus (USB) port problems A USB device does not work. If the items above are correct and the problem remains, contact your place of purchase. Verify that: 1.
