Removal and Replacement Procedures 2-13 Hot-Plug Fan Assemblies WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment: Failed or failing fans should be left connected to the system until they can be replaced. If a fan must be removed while the server is powered up, there is a 5-minute period allowed to remove and replace the fan before the server shuts down. (Microsoft Windows NT, UNIX, and Novell NetWare) Removal of both fans causes overheating and subsequent server shutdown. NOTE: All hot-plug fan assemblies remove exactly the same way. To remove a hot-plug fan assembly: 1. Remove the top access panel. See "Top Access Panel" earlier in this chapter. 2. Loosen the thumbscrew located at the top of the fan. 3. Hot-Plug Fan Assemblies
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment:
Failed or failing fans should be left connected to the system until they can be replaced.
If a fan must be removed while the server is powered up, there is a 5-minute period
allowed to remove and replace the fan before the server shuts down. (Microsoft
Windows NT, UNIX, and Novell NetWare)

To remove a hot-plug fan assembly:
1. Remove the top access panel. See
