CAUTION Supported types of media The printer supports the following types of paper and other print media: q plain q letterhead q prepunched q bond q color q rough q preprinted q transparency q labels q recycled q card stock q envelopes Guidelines for using paper For best results, use conventional 75- to 90-g/m2 (20- to 24-lb) paper. Make sure that the paper is of good quality, and free of cuts, nicks, tears, spots, loose particles, dust, wrinkles, voids, and curled or bent edges. If you are unsure what type of paper you are loading (such as bond or recycled), check the label on the package of paper. Some paper might cause print-quality problems, jamming, or damage to the printer. Symptom Poor print quality or toner adhesion. Dropouts, jamming, curl. Increased gray background shading. Excessive curl. Problems with feeding. Problem with paper Solution q Too moist, too rough, too smooth, or embossed. q Ragged edges. q Faulty paper lot. q Try another kind of paper, between 100 to 250 Sheffield, 4 to 6 percent moisture content. q Change the fuser mode. See "Print Quality submenu" on page 46. q Stored improperly. q Store paper flat in its moisture-proof wrapping. q Too heavy. q Use lighter paper. q Use a higher toner density setting. See "Print Quality submenu" on page 46. Note Do not use letterhead paper that is printed with low-temperature inks, such as those used in some types of thermography. Do not use raised letterhead. The printer uses heat and pressure to fuse toner to the paper. Make sure that any colored paper or preprinted forms use inks that are compatible with the printer's temperature of 230° C (446° F) for 0.05 second. Avoid using paper that has been damaged from being previously used in a printer or copier. (Do not print on both sides of envelopes, transparencies, or labels.) 14 Printer description Q2431-90912
