2 To load special items When loading items to be faxed, copied, or scanned, you need to protect small, fragile, lightweight (less than 12 lb. or 46 g/m2), or irregularly sized items such as receipts, newspaper clippings, photographs, and old or worn documents. 1 Do one of the following: l Place the item in a carrier sheet. You can buy a carrier sheet, or you can make one by taping a transparency and piece of paper together along one of the short sides. Insert the item to be faxed, copied, or scanned into the carrier, and insert the carrier into the document feeder tray, taped edge first. - Or - l Using clear tape, tape the leading and trailing edges of the item to a sheet of letter- or A4-size paper. If the item is not square or rectangular, tape all edges of the item to the paper. - Or - l If you have use of a full-size copier, copy the item first and then send the copy through the scanner. 2 Adjust the guides in the document feeder tray to fit the size of the item you are loading. 46 Chapter 2 - Installation and operation EN

item to be faxed, copied, or scanned
into the carrier, and insert the carrier

l

sheet of letter- or A4-size paper. If
the item is not square or rectangular,
tape all edges of the item to the
paper.
