Recording quality and hard disk storage space The space available for recording TV programs depends on your hard disk size, the percentage of hard disk space allocated to recorded TV, and the recording quality setting. Quality of recording Best Hard disk space used *3 GB/hour To get the maximum recording time, change the recording quality to Fair instead of the default setting of Best. Better Good *2.4 GB/hour *2 GB/hour *This table shows approximate sizes of recorded TV program files. Some files may be smaller or larger. Freeing up space on your hard disk drive The PC comes with a hard disk drive. Depending on your model, the hard disk drive has 40 gigabytes (GB) to more than 200 GB of total disk space. The PC comes with preloaded software programs and a partition within the hard disk drive that takes up a certain amount of space on the hard disk drive. The partition: ■ Houses a backup version of the operating system and the programs included with the PC. Use the following procedures to: ■ Display the amount of used and free disk space through the System Tools Disk Management program. ■ Takes up about 5 GB of hard disk space, reducing the total amount of space available for your use. ■ Uninstall unneeded programs. ■ Replaces the need for system and application recovery CDs. 122 hp media center pc user's guide
