134 Chapter 8-Component Guide Part I level, in other words, the Ducker is having no effect. The output meter displays the level of the output signal. Parameter MUTE ON/OFF SIDECHAIN THRESHOLD RANGE ATTACK HOLD DECAY Range ON/OFF ON/OFF ON/OFF -54 dB to 0 dB -70 dB to 0 dB 0 ms-120 ms 1 2 Description Mutes the output Turns the component on and off Selects the sidechain input as the trigger source Adjusts the threshold level Adjusts the range Adjusts the attack time Adjusts the hold time Adjusts the decay time 1. 0.02 ms-1.96 sec (fs = 48 kHz), 0.02 ms-2.13 sec (fs = 44.1 kHz) 2. 5 ms-42.3 sec (fs = 48 kHz), 6 ms-46.0 sec (fs = 44.1 kHz) SIDECHAIN-When SIDECHAIN is off, the Ducker is triggered by the input signal. On the Stereo Ducker, the trigger signal is derived by mixing the signals from both inputs, so the higher of the two input signals will activate the Ducker. When SIDECHAIN is on, the Ducker is triggered by the signal connected to the sidechain input. THRESHOLD-This determines the level of trigger signal required to activate ducking. Trigger signal levels below the threshold do not activate ducking. Trigger signals at and above the threshold level, however, activate ducking, and the signal level is reduced to a level set by the Range parameter. RANGE-This determines the level to which the signal is ducked. For a setting of -70 dB, the signal is virtually cutoff. For a setting of -30 dB, however, the signal is ducked by 30 dB. For a setting of 0 dB, the Ducker has no effect. +20 +10 0 -10 Threshold = -20dB -20 Output Level (dB) ATTACK-This determines how soon the signal is ducked once the Ducker has been activated. With a fast attack time, the signal is ducked almost immediately. With a slow attack time, however, ducking appears to fade in the signal. Too fast an attack time may sound abrupt. -30 -40 -50 -60 Range = -30dB -70 -70 -60 -50 -40 -30 -20 -10 0 +10 +20 Input Level (dB) HOLD- This determines how long ducking remains active once the trigger signal has fallen below the threshold level. DECAY-This determines how soon the Ducker returns to its normal gain once the trigger signal level drops below the threshold. DME32-Owner's Manual
