7 Troubleshooting As you use your printer, you may occasionally experience a paper jam or other problem. The first thing you should do is diagnose the problem following the guidelines in this chapter. Then try the most likely solutions until the problem is fixed. This chapter tells you everything you need to know about the following:  Diagnosing problems  Improving print quality  Solving printing problems  Fixing paper jams and other paper problems  Solving miscellaneous printout problems Diagnosing Problems Your printer includes a number of ways to help you diagnose problems:  To identify the most common problems, check the lights on the printer's control panel. See page 1-13 for instructions.  You can also use the Status Monitor utility to identify common problems. For instructions, see page 4-4 (Windows 95) or page 4-7 (Macintosh).  To determine whether the problem is caused by the printer itself, run a printer self test.
