HP LaserJet 3050 all-in-one unique components This section presents an overview of the relationships between unique major components in the HP LaserJet 3050 all-in-one. This section describes the optical scanning system and ADF pickup and feed system used in the HP LaserJet 3050 all-in-one. It does not describe the image-formation system that is common to the HP LaserJet 3050/3052/3055 all-in-one. For information about image formation, see Image-formation system on page 79. Basic operation The HP LaserJet 3050 all-in-one uses a pickup and feed system (document transportation) and an optical scanning system. Figure 4-8 Basic operation block diagram on page 83 shows the relationship of the two systems. Figure 4-8 Basic operation block diagram A document is placed into the ADF tray. When the formatter sends a signal to the optical scanning system, the document is picked up and fed into the optical system through a series of rollers and a separation pad (the separation pad prevents the pickup system from feeding multiple pages if more than one page is loaded in the ADF tray). As the document passes the contact image scanner, the scanner illuminates the document. The optical scanning system captures and amplifies the reflected light and converts it to a digital signal, and then sends the digital signal to the formatter for image-processing.
