Aborting replication, Detaching a replication volume

Page 110 highlights

Aborting replication If the system is licensed to use remote replication, you can abort the current replication operation for the selected replication volume. The current replication may be running or suspended. You must perform this task on the system that owns the replication destination volume. To abort replication 1. In the Configuration View panel, right-click a replication volume and select Provisioning > Abort Replication. 2. In the main panel, click Abort Replication. A message indicates whether the task succeeded or failed. Detaching a replication volume If the system is licensed to use remote replication, you can prepare a replication volume to be physically removed from the local system. This lets you create a replication set in the local system, then move the disks containing one replication volume and its associated snap pool into a remote system. A replication volume must be detached from a replication set before being moved. The detached volume remains part of the replication set but is not updated with replication data or with replication control information. After the volume is inserted into another system, the volume can be reattached to the replication set by using the Reattach Replication panel. If you intend to move the disks' drive enclosure, it should be at the end of the chain of connected enclosures. If the enclosure is in the middle of the chain, the enclosures must be cabled with no single point of failure, so that removing the enclosure does not affect communication between other enclosures. IMPORTANT: • Before removing the disks or their drive enclosure from the system, either shut down the controllers or power off the enclosure. • Before powering off a drive enclosure, ensure that the Detach Replication task completed successfully; otherwise, data loss or vdisk/volume failure may result. • Immediately after the drive enclosure is powered off there will be unwritable cache data for snap pools in the drive enclosure. You can safely use the CLI clear cache command with the volume parameter to clear these data without losing any user data. To detach a replication volume 1. In the Configuration View panel, right-click a replication volume and select Provisioning > Detach Replication. 2. In the main panel, click Detach Replication. A message indicates whether the task succeeded or failed. Reattaching a replication volume If the system is licensed to use remote replication, you can reattach a replication volume that has been physically moved from another system into this system. After the volume is reattached, the replication set can resume replication operations. To reattach a replication volume 1. In the Configuration View panel, right-click a replication volume and select Provisioning > Reattach Replication. 2. In the main panel, click Reattach Replication. A message indicates whether the task succeeded or failed. 110 Using Remote Snap to replicate volumes

Using Remote Snap to replicate volumes
Aborting replication
If the system is licensed to use remote replication, you can abort the current replication operation for the
selected replication volume. The current replication may be running or suspended. You must perform this
task on the system that owns the replication destination volume.
To abort replication
1.
In the Configuration View panel, right-click a replication volume and select
Provisioning > Abort
Replication
.
2.
In the main panel, click
Abort Replication
. A message indicates whether the task succeeded or failed.
Detaching a replication volume
If the system is licensed to use remote replication, you can prepare a replication volume to be physically
removed from the local system. This lets you create a replication set in the local system, then move the disks
containing one replication volume and its associated snap pool into a remote system.
A replication volume must be detached from a replication set before being moved. The detached volume
remains part of the replication set but is not updated with replication data or with replication control
information. After the volume is inserted into another system, the volume can be reattached to the
replication set by using the Reattach Replication panel.
If you intend to move the disks' drive enclosure, it should be at the end of the chain of connected
enclosures. If the enclosure is in the middle of the chain, the enclosures must be cabled with no single point
of failure, so that removing the enclosure does not affect communication between other enclosures.
IMPORTANT:
Before removing the disks or their drive enclosure from the system, either shut down the controllers or
power off the enclosure.
Before powering off a drive enclosure, ensure that the Detach Replication task completed successfully;
otherwise, data loss or vdisk/volume failure may result.
Immediately after the drive enclosure is powered off there will be unwritable cache data for snap pools
in the drive enclosure. You can safely use the CLI
clear cache
command with the volume parameter
to clear these data without losing any user data.
To detach a replication volume
1.
In the Configuration View panel, right-click a replication volume and select
Provisioning > Detach
Replication
.
2.
In the main panel, click
Detach Replication
. A message indicates whether the task succeeded or failed.
Reattaching a replication volume
If the system is licensed to use remote replication, you can reattach a replication volume that has been
physically moved from another system into this system. After the volume is reattached, the replication set
can resume replication operations.
To reattach a replication volume
1.
In the Configuration View panel, right-click a replication volume and select
Provisioning > Reattach
Replication
.
2.
In the main panel, click
Reattach Replication
. A message indicates whether the task succeeded or
failed.
