5. Orient the new fan so that the LED on top of the fan is to the right of the server. 6. Push the replacement fan assembly into the server until it clicks into place. 7. Replace the cover. See "Completing the installation" on page 51. Replacing the battery The following notes describe information that you must consider when replacing the battery: v IBM has designed this product with your safety in mind. The lithium battery must be handled correctly to avoid possible danger. If you replace the battery, you must adhere to the following instructions. Note: In the U. S., call 1-800-IBM-4333 for information about battery disposal. v If you replace the original lithium battery with a heavy-metal battery or a battery with heavy-metal components, be aware of the following environmental consideration. Batteries and accumulators that contain heavy metals must not be disposed of with normal domestic waste. They will be taken back free of charge by the manufacturer, distributor, or representative, to be recycled or disposed of in a proper manner. v To order replacement batteries, call 1-800-426-7378 within the United States, and 1-800-465-7999 or 1-800-465-6666 within Canada. Outside the U.S. and Canada, call your IBM reseller or IBM marketing representative. Note: After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure the server and reset the system date and time. Statement 2 CAUTION: When replacing the lithium battery, use only IBM Part Number 33F8354 or an equivalent type battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a module containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module type made by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not properly used, handled, or disposed of. Do not: v Throw or immerse into water v Heat to more than 100°C (212°F) v Repair or disassemble Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations. Complete the following steps to replace the battery: 1. Read the "Installation guidelines" on page 23.and the safety information beginning on page Appendix B, "Safety information," on page 117. 2. Follow any special handling and installation instructions that come with the battery. 3. Turn off the server and all attached devices and disconnect all power cords and external cables (see "Turning off the server" on page 7); then, remove the server cover (see "Removing the cover" on page 28). 4. Remove the air baffle (see "Removing the air baffle" on page 29). 5. Disconnect any internal cables, as necessary. 6.
