The CRC is an error-checking technique that uses a calculated numeric value to detect errors in transmitted data. • Encapsulation-Indicates whether HDLC or PPP encapsulation is used on the interface. • Framing-Framing for optical digital transmission. SONET is the North American standard, SDH is the European standard. • Payload Scrambling-Indicates whether or not SONET payload scrambling is enabled on the interface. Payload scrambling ensures that there is sufficient bit-transition density to maintain the transmit clock for synchronous signalling.
