You can configure up to five SNMP communities, each with either an operator-level or a managerlevel view, and either restricted or unrestricted write access. Using SNMP requires that the switch have an IP address and subnet mask compatible with your network. For ProCurve Manager (PCM) version 1.5 or earlier (or any TopTools version), deleting the "public" community disables some network management functions (such as traffic monitoring, SNMP trap generation, and threshold setting). If network management security is a concern, and you are using the above software versions, ProCurve recommends that you change the write access for the "public" community to "Restricted".
