Spanning Tree Global Settings Page The Spanning Tree Global Parameters page contains the following fields: • Spanning Tree State-Enables STP on the device. The possible field values are: - Enable-Enables STP on the device. - Disable-Disables STP on the device. • STP Operation Mode-Indicates the STP mode by which STP is enabled on the device. The possible field values are: - Classic STP-Enables Classic STP on the device (IEEE 802.1D). - Rapid STP-Enables Rapid STP is enabled on the device (IEEE 802.1w). For more information on Rapid STP, see "Configuring Rapid Spanning Tree". • Priority (0-65535)-Specifies the bridge priority value. When switches or bridges are running STP, each is assigned a priority. After exchanging BPDUs, the switch with the lowest priority value becomes the Root Bridge. The default value is 32768. The port priority value is incremented in multiples of 16; for example, 16, 32, 64, 80, and so on. • Hello Time (1-10)-Specifies the switch Hello Time. The Hello Time indicates the amount of time in seconds a root bridge waits between configuration messages. The default is 2 seconds. Configuring Switch Infor mation 241
