If the server model comes with an operating system installed, such as Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server or VMware ESX server, see the software documentation provided with your software for additional cabling instructions. To effectively manage the cables on this server, keep groups of cables secured together, and do not run cables across the back of the server. Use cable ties to bundle similar cables together. Use hook-and-loop fasteners to secure the cable bundles to the vertical rails of the rack cabinet. Attention: Do not secure cables too tightly. Overtightening can cause internal damage to the cables. SMP Expansion Port cabling Depending upon your configuration, there are either three or six SMP Expansion Ports located on the back of the server. The cabling information in this section is for configurations using up to four SMP Expansion Modules in two servers. Configurations that use only one SMP Expansion Module have three SMP Expansion Ports and do not require any SMP Expansion Port cabling. v If you are installing a server that has only one SMP Expansion Module and you are connecting an RXE-100 enclosure, go to "One server with one SMP Expansion Module" on page 133. v If you are installing a server that has only one SMP Expansion Module and you are not connecting an RXE-100 enclosure, connect all remaining external cables to the server; then, go to "Creating a scalable partition" on page 141 and follow the instructions for creating a scalable partition. v If you are installing a server that has two SMP Expansion Modules, go to "One server with two SMP Expansion Modules" on page 128. v If you are installing two servers that each have two SMP Expansion Modules, go to "Two servers with four SMP Expansion Modules (16-way)" on page 129.
