Setting up point-to-point protocol: The Remote Supervisor Adapter management port supports point-to-point protocol (PPP). PPP enables TCP/IP communication over the management port, which enables Web-based management and Telnet sessions over a modem. To set up PPP, complete the following steps. If you completed the procedure for configuring the management port and the Configuration Settings window is open, go to step 3 on page 52. 1. With the server turned off, insert the downloaded utility program into the diskette drive; then, turn on the server. The utility starts automatically, displaying the Remote Supervisor Utility window. 2. Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys (↑ and ↓) to select Configuration Settings; then, press Enter. The Configuration Settings window opens. 3. Use the arrow keys to select PPP Settings; then, press Enter. The PPP Settings window opens, as shown in the following illustration. Use the arrow keys to navigate to each field. Verify the values in the following fields: Network Interface The default is Disabled. Change this field to Enabled. IP Address The default value is 192.96.1.1. You can use the default value or another value, but the server must be able to establish a connection to that address. The default IP address (local and remote) is easily reconfigurable. Subnet Mask The default value is 255.255.255.255. Line Type The value is set to PPP.
