PCI brick The PCI brick contains the following components: v Active PCI assembly v Center plane v I/O board v PCI and PCI-X adapters and spacers v PCI-X board v Riser card v System Management board v VRMs This brick must be removed from the server to access many of these components. Complete the following steps to remove the PCI brick from the server. Note: v Read "Installation guidelines" on page 79. v Read the safety notices at "Safety notices (multilingual translations)" on page 260. v Read "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 80. 1. Turn off the server (see "Turning off the server" on page 10) and disconnect all power cords and external cables. 2. Open the top cover (see "Opening the cover" on page 82). 3. Remove the retention bracket, if installed. 4. Remove the fans (see "Replacing and troubleshooting fans" on page 122). 5. Remove the SMP expansion module(s) (see "SMP Expansion Module" on page 97). Note: The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from the hardware being serviced. PCI brick 6. If the system contains a removable cable retainer ( 1 ), turn thumbscrew to remove it. 7. Remove the shipping screw ( 2 ) from the left side of the server, if installed. 8. cable
retainer

turn
thumbscrew

remove
it.

Remove
the

of
the
server,

Disconnect
all
cables
attached
to
the
PCI
brick,
including
those
attached
to
the
center
plane
and
I/O
board.
